5–8 October, 2023

This October 2023, Spain will be welcoming the inaugural edition of the Classical Barcelona International Piano Competition, an international piano competition taking place between the 5th and 8th of October which will be open to pianists of all nationalities, provided that they are no older than 36 years of age.

Held over two rounds, this competition will give talented young musicians the opportunity to showcase their skills, with a wide repertoire allowing them to demonstrate their full command of the instrument, including a contemporary work from the competition’s Composer-In-Residence Alexey Shor.

Through it all, the contest will be presided over by an illustrious jury board that consists of some of the most respected and experienced pianists and pedagogues active today, including Milana Chernyavska (Germany), Cordelia Höfer-Teutsch (Germany), Roland Krüger (Germany), Jordi Masó (Spain), and Pavel Nersessian.

There will be a total prize fund of €18,000 awaiting the top-ranked contestants, with €10,000 going to the First Prize winner, €5,000 to the second, and €3,000 to the third. In addition, Classical Barcelona also forms part of the ‘14 Ways to Dubai’ initiative, a large-scale international endeavour which consists of 14 preliminary piano competitions held in 14 different countries around the world. This means that the top-five-ranked Classical Barcelona participants will also win the right to participate in the 2024 Classic Piano International Competition, which will be held in Dubai as part of the acclaimed InClassica International Music Festival, with a further €250,000 worth of prizes to be shared among the award-winners there.

We wish all our participants the best of luck, and look forward to welcoming you all to Spain!
